Grounded Casual Kitchen Remodel
Vashon Island, WA
This family needed a kitchen that could keep up with them — two young girls, an Australian Shepherd, and a love of entertaining. Their 90s-era home had a cramped, walled-off galley kitchen that made hosting feel like a workout. Something had to change.
We opened the floor plan by removing the wall between the kitchen and living area, relocated the oversized water heater to the attic to reclaim pantry space, and designed a generous island with ample seating at its center. Handmade tile, butcher block counters, and hardwood flooring matched to the rest of the house give the space its grounded, organic character. A custom built-in breakfast nook rounds it out — practical, beautiful, and exactly right for this family.
The result is a kitchen that works as hard as the people who live in it.
